"The better" is a superlative that only applies when comparing two people or things. "The best" is not wrong when comparing just two, but "the better" makes clear that the comparison is between two only.
Comparing means simply you take two things and you do the simple job, and you give your own judgment. by contrast "confrontation" is when you are sure about the results you get and have a belief about them and you can defend your ideas.
