Terrazzo originated from Venice, Italy in the mid-16th century. Terrazzo, which means “terrace”, was once made by pressing marble pieces into a clay surface and sealing it off with goat milk for a mosaic-like finish, creating inexpensive flooring at the time. Today terrazzo is poured-in-place by installers, cured, and ground to create a smooth, polished surface.
